WWPSYCH Press Release

Title: >270 Bursaries Awarded
Date: 23-10-2009

The economic climate this year has resulted in reduced funding for many conferences during 2009, and the Winter Workshop in Psychoses has been no exception.  Even in this difficult time, however, the Winter Workshop Fund has offered a bursary to almost all individuals who applied for one.

This has resulted in over 270 bursaries being awarded – many have been given free registration, plus funding towards travel and accommodation.

The Winter Workshop Committee believes strongly in global communication and interaction between physicians to improve patient care.  One of the goals of the committee is to encourage attendance from around the world through the bursary scheme to ensure cross-cultural exchange of ideas and medical education.

The Winter Workshop in Psychoses conference has been re-focussed this year into a symptom-based event, and this has struck a cord with researchers and clinicians alike.  Topics have been proposed which address the psychoses generally – no matter whether categorised into schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, alzheimers or even ‘not-otherwise-specified’.  The conference is truly addressing the needs of the presenting patient and not a rigid diagnostic system such as DSM or ICD.

The conference programme now includes over 60 speakers, 300 posters and final delegate numbers are anticipated to be in the region of 700.

Places are still available to register at www.wwpsych.org.  Book now to ensure your place at this conference.
